The place is a diamond in the rough. The facilities are basic, but that is part of the charm. It offers:
- Bargain food and drink
- Fun entertainment
- Fabulous shoes
- Friendly service
- Courtesy bus
- Cheap membership
For a night out in Home Hill you can’t beat the Bowls Club for many reasons, not just the cheap food and drinks. But that’s a good place to start.
Cheap Food and Drinks
Drinks are very cheap, with a stubby of beer costing $4.50, but they also have specials. Last week there was a German beer selling for $2.00 a bottle. A glass of wine is $2.00. Granted it’s Chateau Cardboard, but still drinkable.
Food is limited to burgers, but they’re hearty and you can get a meal deal of a burger and a glass of wine for $7.00.
These prices are non-member prices and reduce further if you join up. More on that later.
While you’re sipping your cheap drinks you also have entertainment options. Obviously, there’s lawn bowls, which is free on Fridays from 6.00 pm, but that’s not all.
The club boasts the largest inflatable soccer field in Australia.
There are also regular Karaoke Nights and live bands.
Another option is to hire out the club as a party venue, which costs nothing and includes free bowls and even includes an ‘old mate’ to coach the clueless.
It was the last place I expected to buy a pair of shoes, but life is like that. These are popular among the back packers and the club sell them for just $20.00. They are extremely comfortable, not to mention cute and they go in the washing machine to clean.
The club also sell shirts and camel backpacks.
The service is fabulous. The club is run by some old-time locals who obviously enjoy welcoming new people from different places. The club is opposite the backpackers, so there’s a steady flow of new folks rolling in.
The courtesy bus will pick you up and run you home at the end of the night and it only costs a gold coin donation. You have to organise the pick-up with the club.
With even more discounts available who wouldn’t want to join. There’s different levels of membership, but the most appealing at the minute is the Life Membership deal for $10.
Another good option for the traveller is the Backpacker Membership which costs only a gold coin and gives you a 3-month membership. The club offers this in recognition of the valuable contribution backpackers make to the agricultural industry of the area.
If you’re in the neighbourhood, you’d be a fool not to get along to the Home Hill Bowls club and enjoy everything it has to offer, even the shoes.
